Happy 4th of July, my friends, where we celebrate 250 years of American Independence!! If you want some patriotic makeup inspiration, be sure to check out my post from LAST WEEK HERE.
I’ve often been asked my opinion on Laura Geller cream makeup, and to be quite honest, I hadn’t had much experience with any of her products — until now. And I have thoughts!
This brand gets a lot of buzz because it fills a gap in the beauty market. For years, much of the beauty industry focused on younger consumers. Laura Geller built a reputation for addressing concerns common among mature women—such as dryness, loss of radiance, and fine lines—which helped create a devoted customer base with her “skin first” approach.

Here’s my short answer up front: if you’re looking for a simple, travel-friendly cream makeup palette that works beautifully on mature, dry skin, the Laura Geller Best of the Best Cream Starter Kit probably deserves a spot on your vanity. Keep reading for my full step-by-step test, including a before-and-after.
| Key Takeaways The Laura Geller Best of the Best Cream Starter Kit ($75) includes a baked foundation, a full-face cream palette, and two brushes. Cream formulas blend into mature skin rather than settling into fine lines, as some powders can. An online shade quiz helps you choose the right palette before you buy — mine nailed it. Coverage is natural and skin-like, not full coverage; I added my own concealer and mascara. The lip shades are sheer — pretty, but pair them with a lip liner for more punch. |
Why Laura Geller Gets So Much Buzz With Women Over 50
This brand fills a real gap in the beauty market. For years, much of the beauty industry focused on younger consumers. Laura Geller built a reputation for addressing concerns common among mature women — dryness, loss of radiance, and fine lines — and that “skin first” approach earned her a devoted customer base.

What’s in the Best of the Best Cream Starter Kit
I decided the best way to test the brand was with the new-ish Laura Geller Best of the Best Cream Starter Kit, 4-piece, $75, which includes:
- a Baked Balance-n-Brighten foundation in shade “light”
- the Best of the Best Cream full face basics palette in “light”
- two brushes — the Wonder Face brush and a dual-ended eye + lip brush
Spoiler alert — check out my before and after below.
One of the biggest advantages of this set: there’s an online shade quiz you can take first to make sure you choose the right palette. Mine nailed it with “light.”

Why Cream Makeup Flatters Mature Skin
Cream makeup for women 40+ tends to look more natural and skin-like than powders. The wrong powder formulas can settle into fine lines, emphasize texture, or leave dry skin looking dull and lifeless.

Cream products, on the other hand, add a healthy-looking glow and blend seamlessly into the skin.
How I Used the Kit, Step by Step
Step 1: Prep and Prime
Always start with well-prepped skin. Apply your favorite hydrating moisturizer and allow it to absorb before applying makeup. If your skin is especially dry, consider her best-selling Hydrate Spackle PRIMER, $38, to create an extra-smooth canvas — which I did here. It’s also very important to keep all these creamy products in place and prevent them from sliding around the face. I even applied a little bit on my eyelids.
Step 2: The Baked Foundation
I applied the BAKED FOUNDATION on top of my primer with the fluffy Wonder Brush (which I realized after the fact is for the cream products — oops!!), but it worked.

This baked foundation gives a pretty decent amount of coverage and looks like you barely have any makeup on — which I think is why women love her stuff so much. I mean, I think my skin looks pretty good, don’t you?? But if you’re looking for full coverage, this isn’t your product.
Step 3: A Little Concealer to Brighten
I had to add in my own concealer — the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer, $36, in “creme brulee.” (Gosh, it’s just so good if you need a hard-working concealer!) Y’all know I ALWAYS recommend a little concealer to brighten aging eyes. If you didn’t catch my post on the Beauty Products Mature Women Aren’t Using, but Should Be, be sure to go check it out.

Step 4: Bronzer
Moving onto the color portion, I started with the BRONZER in the palette. I used the warmth of my fingers to place and melt the product into the skin for the most natural finish, applying under my cheekbones, along the sides of my nose, and under my chin. The bronzer was beautiful by itself and has a slight shimmer — I blended it in with the same Wonder Brush.

Step 5: Blush + Highlighter

I then applied the BLUSH + HIGHLIGHTER onto the tops of my cheekbones, in that order. It turned out so pretty, with just the right amount of rosy warmth added to my complexion.
Another great feature of this palette: the included double mirrors. There’s a magnified section that helps you see up close when applying eyeshadow, then a regular section to see the whole picture. Very handy, since my eyesight isn’t what it used to be!

Step 6: Cream Eye Shadows
Next I moved to the CREAM EYE SHADOWS, used in the order they’re placed in the palette: the lightest shade from lash line all the way to the brow bone, the medium shade from lash line just up to my crease, and the darkest brown just in the outer corners. The shadow end of the dual brush worked great for application.
I added a black waterproof eyeliner, smudged softly along my lash line, and lots of my own mascara to finish the eye look.

Step 7: Lips
Finally, the LIPS. This is where I would have liked a lip color that packed a bit more punch, honestly — but they feel great once applied. If you like a very sheer lip color with a hint of frost, you’ll love the three offered. I have on the deepest pink in the palette. Next time I wear any of these, I’ll definitely add a lip liner.

The Rest of My Look
Did you notice my French manicure with gold star accents? They’re Impress press-ons, of course! $9 // Similar black eyelet-sleeved top from Tommy Bahama here, $99, and Sanctuary bell eyelet-sleeved top, $119 // Similar oversized gold disk earrings here on Amazon, $22, or even bigger here, $9 // My fake tan thanks to Bondi Sands tanning foam in light/medium, $28.

Laura Geller Cream Makeup FAQ
Yes — the brand built its reputation on a “skin first” approach designed for concerns like dryness, loss of radiance, and fine lines. The cream formulas in the Best of the Best Starter Kit blend into mature skin without emphasizing texture.
For most mature, dry skin, cream makeup is the more flattering choice. The wrong powder can settle into fine lines and look dull, while creams add a healthy glow and blend seamlessly. A hydrating primer helps cream products stay put all day.
No — the baked foundation gives natural, decent coverage that looks like you’re barely wearing makeup. If you want full coverage, plan to layer your own concealer, as I did for brightening under the eyes.
Take the free online shade quiz on the Laura Geller site before ordering. It matched me perfectly to the “light” palette, which takes the guesswork out of shopping for cream makeup online.
