Weekend three at the apartment, and the furniture trucks have found me.
Grit & Glammers, delivery season is officially upon us. It’s weekend three at the Atlanta apartment, and if weekends one and two were about unpacking boxes and figuring out where the coffee maker lives, this one is about watching the rooms come together piece by piece. The leather chair has arrived, the TV console lands today, and — the headline of the whole weekend — the dining room is complete, thanks in no small part to a pair of washable rugs that turned out to be exactly the right call for this space. If you’ve ever wondered whether washable rugs can hold their own in a room you actually care about, this post is your answer: they can, and I’ll show you how I chose mine. Also on the docket this week: brown’s big summer moment (twice), a perfectly timed Ruggable sale, the NSale preview, a linen pant showdown, and what’s waiting on my nightstand.
This Weekend at a Glance
- The camel leather chair has arrived and claimed its corner of the living room.
- Three more deliveries this weekend: the TV console, a raffia console, and kitchen counter stools.
- The dining room is officially the first finished room in the apartment.
- Both rugs are washable rugs from Ruggable — the Impasto in the dining room and the Sarrah Blue Quartz in the living room — and Ruggable is running 25% off right now.
- Brown is still summer’s chicest neutral, and I have two outfits to prove it.
- The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale preview is live — my full picks land Sunday.
- Plus: a BaubleBar cart confession, a linen pant showdown, World Cup rooting interests, and my next read.
The Deliveries Have Begun
There is a particular kind of joy in a delivery window. You circle the date, you clear the doorway, and then you spend the morning glancing out the window like it’s Christmas morning in July.
First to arrive: the leather chair. I knew this piece would anchor the living room the moment I ordered it, and seeing it in the space confirmed it. That warm camel leather brings instant depth to the room — it’s the piece that makes everything around it look more considered. It will only get better with age, which is a design philosophy I can personally get behind.
Today, the TV console arrives, which means the living room takes another big step toward done. And there are two more boxes on the calendar: a raffia console — all that beautiful natural texture, very Palm Beach meets Paris — and counter stools for the kitchen, so weekend guests finally have somewhere to perch while I pretend the coffee bar was always this organized.
The Dining Room Is Done
Say it with me: the first finished room in the apartment. The dining room is complete, and the finishing touch was the rug.
I went with the Impasto Rug from Ruggable, and it is perfection — precisely because it disappears into the room. That sounds like faint praise. It is the opposite. In a dining room, the table is the star. A rug that competes for attention shrinks the space and busies the eye. The Impasto does what a great supporting player does: it grounds the table, softens the floor, adds quiet texture underfoot, and then politely steps out of the spotlight. The room reads calm, finished, intentional.
And because it’s a washable rug, it lives happily in the one room guaranteed to see red wine, marinara, and the occasional dropped fork. When you’re furnishing a dining room, that’s not a small consideration — it’s the whole ballgame.
The Living Room Rug: Sarrah Blue Quartz
The living room got its own Ruggable moment with the Sarrah Blue Quartz. Where the dining room rug recedes, this one gets to add a whisper of color — those soft blue tones play beautifully against the camel leather chair and warm up the whole seating area without shouting about it.
Choosing two washable rugs from Ruggable for the two hardest-working rooms in the apartment was one of the easiest decisions of this entire project. Grandchildren visit. Snacks happen. Life happens. A rug cover that zips off and goes straight into the washing machine means I never have to choose between a beautiful room and a lived-in one.
And a well-timed PSA: Ruggable is having a 25% off sale right now — and not one but two of my apartment rugs came from Ruggable. If a washable rug has been on your list, this is your moment.
What Delivery Weekend Taught Me
Furnishing a place in phases — anchor pieces first, then rugs, storage, and texture — means every delivery weekend feels like a small reveal. The rooms tell you what they need once the big pieces are in. This weekend, they told me they needed rugs that know their role: one that disappears, one that glows quietly. Both washable, both right.
Next up on the delivery docket: the desk nook and the master bath are still in progress, so more reveals are coming. Stay tuned.
Brown Is Still Summer’s Chicest Neutral

Brown is still trending — yes, even for summer — and both of this week’s outfits are proof it’s a chic choice for hot weather. Paired with white and ivory, brown reads crisp and warm at the same time, which is exactly what you want when the temperature climbs.

Outfit one: How cute is this open stitch sweater paired with white linen shorts? The open knit keeps it breezy, and I added a silk scarf (similar here) for a little drama at the waist. A wicker handbag brings texture, and woven ballet flats finish the look.

Outfit two: I have received a gazillion compliments on these embroidered ivory shorts — that scalloped hem earns every one of them. They look très chic with a brown silk tank (similar here), a wrap sandal, and a raffia handbag. This is an easy summer outfit to pull together, and it works from lunch straight through to dinner.

And while we’re on the subject of summer essentials: this tote is the perfect summer tote for the beach or pool. I have one that’s designated for the Tybee beach house — it’s roomy and easy to clean, which is everything you want in a bag that lives its life in sand and sunscreen.
In My Cart: BaubleBar
An easy way to add color to your outfit is with jewelry, and BaubleBar has a vast array of choices. This necklace is currently sitting in my cart, and this charm necklace caught my eye too. When the outfit is neutral, let the jewelry do the talking.
The NSale Preview Is Live
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale preview is live, and I will share my full picks on Sunday — so consider this your save-the-date. There are a lot of goodies this year. In my opinion, it’s the best sale in years, with quite a few new brands on display: Flamingo Estate and Favorite Daughter (which is quickly capturing my heart), among others.
It’s a great time to stock up on denim, shoes, boots, and accessories. And a bit of news: I’m flying to New York for the YouTube x Nordstrom shopping event, so stay tuned — there’s much more to come.
The Great Linen Pant Showdown
A few weeks ago I shared a linen pant from Ruti that I wear on repeat. Well, Lands’ End has come along with a pair that’s giving it stiff competition — and you can’t beat the price point. When two pants are this good, the only reasonable solution is to own both.
Cheering and Reading
The World Cup has been lots of fun to watch these past few weeks, and the US made a pretty good run! I’m still cheering for Spain, so fingers crossed they keep advancing.
Life has kept me busy splitting time between Atlanta and Athens, but when things slow down, Summer State of Mind by Kristy Woodson Harvey is waiting on my nightstand. A summer read for an actual summer state of mind — that’s the plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Today’s washable rugs come in sophisticated patterns and textures that hold their own in a finished room. I chose Ruggable rugs for both my dining room and living room — the two most visible rooms in my apartment.
Choose a rug that grounds the table rather than competing with it. A low-contrast, textural rug makes the room feel calm and finished, and a washable rug is the practical choice for a room where spills are inevitable.
Yes — brown is still trending for summer. Pair it with white or ivory for a crisp, warm-weather look: a brown knit with white linen shorts, or a brown silk tank with embroidered ivory shorts.
Start with anchor pieces — dining table, seating, bed — then layer in rugs, consoles, storage, and decor. The big pieces reveal what each room actually needs.
